In 2022, for the first time in history, Windsor joined other cities across Ontario in officially celebrating Polish Heritage Month, marking a significant milestone for the local Polish community. This achievement was spearheaded by Margaret Holec, then-President of the Polish People's Home Association.
Recognising the importance of celebrating and preserving Polish culture, Margaret applied for an official proclamation from the City of Windsor. With determination and support from the local Polish-Canadian community, the application was submitted, outlining the cultural, historical, and social contributions of Polish immigrants to Windsor and the surrounding region.
In just a few short weeks, the City of Windsor granted the official proclamation, recognizing October as Polish Heritage Month. This proclamation not only honored the rich heritage of Polish Canadians but also highlighted their contributions to the city's diverse cultural fabric.
The inaugural celebration featured various events, including traditional Polish music and dance performances, cultural exhibitions, and educational sessions about Polish history and traditions. It was a proud moment for the Polish People's Home Association and the broader community, as it showcased their dedication to promoting Polish culture and fostering a sense of unity and pride among residents of Windsor.
